Political ecology applies a system's perspective to understanding the ecological ramifications and sequelae of political economic inspired practices and policy on both macro- and microenvironments. Political ecology is a critical research field within anthropology and related disciplines that examines how and why economic structures and power relations drive environmental change in an increasingly interconnected world.
